H2 OBITUAI EDWARD J. MEARA KARL MARX A Requiem Mass for Edward J. Meara, 73, writer of television and night club comedy skits, will be offered tomorrow at 9:45 A.M. in St. Agnes Cathedral, Rockville Centre, L.I.

A resident of the Chalfonte Hotel, 200 W. 70th he died Wednesday in Boston. He wrote skits for the comedy team of Stiller and Meara, consisting of his daughter, Anne Meara Stiller, and her husband, Jerry Stiller. He served as editor in chief for the second and third editions of the Columbia Encyclopedia and for the Columbia-Viking Desk Encyclopedia. The scion of a family that had been residing in Germany since the Middle Ages, Marx was one of the most prominent personalities in the postwar Jewish community in the republic.

He stayed in Britain during World War II and was the first German Jew to return to the then Britishoccupied zone of Germany in 1946, where he founded the Allgemeine Wochenzeitung Der Juden (Jewish weekly) in Dusseldorf.
